New O.A.M. Technology Added to Minus Wicks

New Odor Absorbing Molecules (O.A.M.) added to take away odors as strong as a skunk

For Every Body added their new Odor Absorbing Molecules Technology (O.A.M.) to their new line of water based air fresheners.

Minus Wicks were created for consumers who love candles, but are able not able to burn them. They were designed to sit on a candle warmer and release fragrance for up to 60 hours as water evaporates. Each Minus Wicks is water based, and does not contain any wax, which allows it to evaporate and release the fragrance.

“Our new line is unique,” said Ben Wall director of marketing. “We want to allow our customers who can’t burn candles to be able to enjoy our high quality fragrances without lighting a candle, and with O.A.M. Technology the product actually absorbs bad odors.”

Minus Wicks is available in six new fragrances such as clean cotton, fresh peach, rain drops, cucumber melon, citrus musk and heaven mist in an 8 oz. size. Minus Wicks were intended to be used in places where candles are not allowed to be burned such as offices, dorms and apartments. Suggested retail price is $10 each.

Sundale Research Report #2

Sales by Channel

Mass merchandisers, such as Wal-Mart and Target, account for the largest share of retail candle sales. In 2005, mass merchandisers represented 30% of sales, up considerably from just ten years ago. This channel will continue to dominate sales over the next few years. In 2010, mass merchandisers are expected to account for 33% of total retail sales of candles. Specialty retailers, like gift shops and card stores, accounted for 22% of retail candle sales in 2005. This channel is slowly losing market share and should represent 20% of sales in 2010, still making it the second leading source for candle sales. Department stores, which include home décor stores, accounted for a respectable 20% of retail candle sales in 2005. This channel is expected to represent 19% of sales in 2010. Grocery stores are the only other channel to account for more than 10% of retail candle sales, representing 12% of the total in 2005. Grocery stores’ share of sales is expected to fall slightly to 11% in 2010. Drug stores and mail order/catalog, which accounted for 7% and 3% of retail candle sales in 2005, respectively, should both retain their share of sales through 2010. On the other hand, the Internet, which accounted for 4% of retail candle sales in 2005, is expected to represent 5% of sales in 2010.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Elia, one of our accountants, for completing her master's degree in accounting! She completed a two year degree in one year from American Intercontinental University online.
She is amazing! She is a single mother of two young girls, and has a full time job, but she had the determination to complete her degree. She said the program was intense, but she learned a lot and had a great experience. It opened her mind to new ideas and possibilities. The hardest part was not being able to spend much time with her daughters.
"It seemed impossible, but I knew if I put my heart into it, it would be possible," she said.
Elia also has a degree in elementarty education from Boise State University. She taught first grade for two years in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Sundale Research Report #1

This is an excellent report. I will be posting it in sections. Great information!

State of the Industry:
Candles in the U.S.

Taken from the 2006 Sundale Research Report

Drivers of Industry Growth

Candle sales are growing at a steady pace, after a sluggish period in the early 2000s. Since 2003, the industry has been positively affected by a healthier economy, which has ultimately led to rising personal disposable incomes and record construction and housing activity. Although consumers have many reasons for buying candles, moving into a new house or redecorating the home often leads to a rise in candle sales. A rise in housing starts and home sales generally results in higher demand for home décor items and, more specifically, candles. A healthy economy also leads to higher consumer spending on home remodeling and new décor products. People are also spending more money on outdoor amenities because the backyard has become an important part of the home used for entertaining and relaxing. The trend toward “outdoor rooms” has also given the candle industry a boost. In general, consumers choose candles based on scent, color, cost, and shape. Currently, seven out of ten U.S. households use candles.

Toppings

The thing that makes us stand out from other companies is our toppings! Most people don't know what toppings are when I first mention them. A topping is something small that goes on top of our candles. For example, our apple candles will have a tiny apple on the top of them, our gardener candles have tiny shovels, sand, and rakes, etc. No one else (as far as I know) has these cute toppings on their candles.

Stink Challenge!

Our new Odor Absorbing Technology (O.A.M.) was a big hit at the Housewares Show in Chicago last week! This new technology is guaranteed to take away any odor, even as strong as a skunk! Several employees went to the show and asked people to take the "Stink Challenge."

People came to our booth, took off their shoes and we sprayed O.E.M. into their shoes to take away the odor. It worked! The bad smell went away!

This is why it works. Bad odors are the result of molecules such as mercaptans, sulfides, amines, nitrogenous compounds and certain aldehydes. Body odor, cooking, mildew and pets can all create unpleasant odors. OAM works because the molecules are not round, but shaped more like a bowl. When they come in contact with the bad odors, the odors fit inside the bowl and then the bowl closes around them like Pac Man. This is a permanent bond. The odor will not come back.

It's great! I've never seen anything like it! We are planning to use it in our pet products, our new Minus Wicks line and other lines.

New Minus Wicks

We introduced a new line of water based air fresheners for consumers who love candles, but are able not able to burn them.

Minus Wicks were designed to sit on a candle warmer and release fragrance for up to 60 hours as water evaporates. Each Minus Wicks is water based, and does not contain any wax, which allows it to evaporate and release the fragrance.

“Our new line is unique,” said Ben, our director of marketing. “We want to allow our customers who can’t burn candles to be able to enjoy our high quality fragrances without lighting a candle.”

Minus Wicks is available in six new fragrances such as clean cotton, fresh peach, rain drops, cucumber melon and others in an 8 oz. size. Minus Wicks were intended to be used in places where candles are not allowed to be burned such as offices, dorms and apartments. Suggested retail price is $10 each.

This new line has been very popular so far! It was shown at the Housewares Show in Chicago this month, and buyers loved it!

Burglary!

We had a robber last week at our outlet store in Lindon. A couple came into our store. The man asked our store manager, Carrie, if he could make candleholders for our store. Meanwhile, his wife walked around the store frantically. She went up and down a hallway that customers aren’t allowed, and all throughout the store. Carrie thought it was strange, but didn’t think much of it.

After a few minutes the lady ran out the door, and her husband left with her quickly. Later that day another woman knocked on the door two minutes after the store had closed. She said she really needed something. She also asked if Carrie knew that a woman walked down her hallway earlier that day. Carrie said yes. It was strange.

Carrie didn’t use her wallet that night. The next morning she went to a store. When she got to the register, she didn’t have her wallet! It was gone! Then, she put it all together.

She canceled her cards and reported it to the police. The couple had used her credit card the night before! Fortunately, a store clerk thought something was fishy when the woman wrote a check for over $300 in her store. The clerk called Carrie and asked if she had just gone to her store. Carrie said no. The store clerk wrote the license plate number down and the police caught the couple. They had been caught for stealing before.

Updates

Surprisingly, our art department had different opinions about the movie they saw last Friday.

Shane, an artist, said, "It was awesome!"

Anita, another artist, said, "It sucked! It was a guy’s movie!” She said she would have preferred to see "Wild Hogs" instead.

Willard, an artist, said, "I thought "300" was good."

"300" is a war movie about the Spartans and some battle.

It has been really quiet with our sales staff gone to the Housewares Show in Chicago.

Phyllis, our administrative assistant, said, "I miss the bustle and banter, but it’ll be exciting when they come back tomorrow and we hear how well the show went."

Paul, our CEO, and Dan, in our planning department, are at the Kohl's vendor summit meeting today and tomorrow, getting more training on our partnership with Kohl's. It’s really amazing how much it takes to ship to large companies like them! There are so many details that all have to be completed and come together just right and just in time in order for the relationship to work. And it’s the same with all the other key account customers we ship to. Kohl's is our largest customer.

New OEM Technology

We were very busy last week at For Every Body. A vendor told us about a new odor eliminating technology, and our art department worked frantically to create labels and posters for it. The Housewares Show in Chicago is this week, and we didn't want to miss an opportunity to show our new products with this new technology.
It is an exciting tecnology. It is called OEM (Odor Eliminating Molecules). We added OEM to a pet shampoo, our Minus Wicks line and a few others. OEM completely eliminates odors. It is so powerful that it can even eliminate skunk odor! It was tested on dogs that were sprayed with skunk odor. They washed the dogs twice with shampoo that had OEM in it, and they didn't smell like skunk after two washes! It is pretty powerful!
Our administrative assistant, Phyllis, said she was amazed how it killed the odor so quickly. She said, "Frankly, I can’t wait until we start producing it, because I want some. I’m especially excited that we sell a fragrance-free version for those of us who are sensitive to fragrance."
Our art department did an excellent job designing the labels and posters for the show. They did such a great job that they went to celebrate at the movies on Friday afternoon! They saw the movie called, "300."

Brittany Spears Fan

We have several employees that keep up on the latest celebrity gossip. They know about the latest cothes worn, who's dating who, and all of the juicy details. One office in particular, our sales office, keeps everyone informed about the latest celebrity news.

On the other hand, Ken, one of our managers didn't care about celebrities until he moved his office across the hall from our sales office. Everyday he could hear the latest scoop on the celebrities. He became more and more interested, and started following the gossip himself! Then, one day they moved his office down the hall. He was sad to leave from his prime spot to hear the latest gossip, but he comes to the sales office to visit every once in a while, especially when they are giving the update on Brittany Spears!
